Volunteers at K9nMe play a meaningful role in shaping the future of compassionate, data-driven dog care. This is an opportunity to contribute skills, learn, and help dogs and families thrive. These are the roles we’re currently looking for:
Volunteer Role: Research Assistant
Focus: Dog Care Index (DCI) research support
Purpose
Support the Dog Care Index by assisting with data collection, literature review, survey coordination, and synthesis of insights related to the cost of dog ownership.
Key Responsibilities
- Conduct desk research on dog care costs, trends, and regional difference
- Support survey development and review (pet parents, shelters, partners)
- Organize and summarize findings into simple briefs or tables
- Assist with documentation for DCI publications
Time Commitment
2–4 hours/week (project-based, flexible)
Ideal Background
- Student or professional in public policy, economics, animal welfare, social science, or related fields
- Strong attention to detail and curiosity about data-driven insights
- Interest in animal welfare or community research
Volunteer Role: Content Writer
Focus: Education, storytelling, and communications
Purpose
Translate data and insights from the Dog Care Index into accessible, human-centered content that educates and engages pet parents.
Key Responsibilities
- Write blog posts, short articles, or summaries based on DCI findings
- Help craft human-interest stories tied to dog care realities
- Assist with website copy, email content, or webinar descriptions
- Collaborate with research and communications leads
Time Commitment
2–3 hours/week or per assignment

- Experience in writing, communications, journalism, or marketing
- Ability to simplify complex topics for general audiences
- Passion for dogs and mission-driven storytelling
Volunteer Role: Data Analyst
Focus: DCI data analysis and modeling
Purpose
Strengthen the analytical rigor of the Dog Care Index by helping analyze survey data, cost models, and regional comparisons.
Key Responsibilities
- Analyze survey and cost data (Excel, Sheets, R, Python, etc.)
- Support regional and category-based cost comparisons
- Create basic data visualizations or summaries
- Advise on data structure for future DCI tools (e.g., cost calculator)
Time Commitment
2–5 hours/week (project-based)
Ideal Background
- Experience in data analysis, economics, analytics, or statistics
- Comfortable working with datasets and drawing insights
- Interest in applying data for social impact
Volunteer Role: Social Media Coordinator
Focus: Awareness, education, and engagement
Purpose
Help build awareness of K9nMe and the Dog Care Index through consistent, thoughtful social media content.
Key Responsibilities
- Draft and schedule social posts (LinkedIn, Instagram, Facebook)
Share DCI insights, stats, and stories in accessible formats - Support promotion of webinars, reports, and volunteer opportunities
- Monitor basic engagement metrics and suggest improvements
Time Commitment
2–3 hours/week
Ideal Background
- Experience managing or contributing to social media accounts
- Strong written communication and visual sense
- Interest in education, advocacy, or nonprofit communications
Volunteer Role: Community Outreach Liaison
Focus: Partnerships and grassroots engagement
Purpose
Strengthen K9nMe’s relationships with shelters, community organizations, and partners to expand the reach and impact of DCI.
Key Responsibilities
- Support outreach to shelters, rescues, and community groups
- Help coordinate survey participation or DCI resource sharing
- Gather informal feedback from partners and pet parents
- Represent K9nMe in a professional, mission-aligned manner
Time Commitment
2–4 hours/week (flexible, relationship-based)
